beaches of ampurias
The area of “Empúries” (Ampurias in Spanish) is dominated by the ancient ruins of the old Greek and later Roman city of Empuries. When the city was abandoned only the small town of Sant Martí d’Empúries, just next to the old city, remained. Nowadays Sant Martí d’Empúries is a great little tourist town. A wide pedestrian boulevard connects Sant Martí d’Empúries with l’Escala. The boulevard runs in front of the Ruins of Empúries.
This same boulevard provides access to the beaches of Empúries, dominated by the remains of the old Greek jetty, two rock formations called “les muscleres” and the Hostal of Empúries. The shallow waters and the abundance of fish by the “muscleres” make this a perfect location for children and to discover snorkelling.
The Sant Martí d’Empúries carpark is only 3 km form the entrance to Camping Las Dunas, however, the beaches of Empuries can also be reached by the beach in a 30 minutes’ walk.
