Montgrí Castle

At the top of the Montgrí (grey mount) there is this military fortification, which King James II of Aragon began to build in the 13th century during his war against the counts of Empúries. The work was never completed due to the consolidation of power by the counts of Barcelona. The walls of the castle of Montgrí reach 13 metres high, and you can access them by a spiral staircase built recently. Access is not easy, but it has magnificent views. Distance: 24 km
